Case Study: Easy Meals Japan

Business Situation

Easy Meals Japan grew quickly as a result of Covid, but several issues were creating significant difficulties for the owner. First, they required a redesign of their website due to business refocus and rebranding. Also, their customers had difficulty understanding how their Subscription Plans worked. Most significantly, the business owner spent 4 to 5 hours each week consolidating customer orders so that accurate and efficient kitchen preparation plans could be created. Finally, they wanted to expand their market to include local Japanese-speaking customers, but their website only supported English language.

Our Approach and Solution

First, we proposed to split the project into two phases so that we could address the most impactful issues first – site rebranding and redesign. We also created an infographic illustrating the meal selection and ordering processes for the site customers.

With the site relaunched, we turned to building a custom framework for customers to select their meals each week (for Subscription Plan customers) along with consolidating the various orders into a single, comprehensive Order Summary. We integrated the Wix site with Google Sheets so that the Order Summary could be viewed in a spreadsheet format and could be used to track progress during the kitchen preparation operation. We also automated the creation of pivot tables in Google Sheets to use the same Order Summary data for order fulfillment.

Finally, we built the Japanese-language site pages and supporting custom code to provide a comprehensive Japanese website to attract local customers.

Since the site relaunch and customer user interface deployment, Easy Meals Japan has added additional Vegan Meal Plans and has partnered with a popular gym to co-promote special fitness-focused Meal Plans. Our business had outgrown the website that I had built. We asked Reed to take a look at what he could do for us. The project is quite large overall.
